In the KNOW!

Diann Schindler served 25 years in higher education, first as an instructor of writing and ultimately college president. When she retired, she dabbled in tennis, music, and writing. Yet, her dream was to travel and write books. In 2015, her fantasy was realized.

She sold her house, her car, and all her possessions, save her tennis racket and Taylor guitar, and began her odyssey in Portugal. Four years later, Diann had explored 46 countries in 5 continents.

With world as her muse, this solo nomad wrote her first novel, “Just A Girl” and it sold very well. It was ranked “sixth best coming-of-age fiction in 2107” by Amazon.

Her friends, in American and abroad, urged her to write

Loiba, Spain

her nonfiction book, “The Essential Guide to a Life of Travel: the ABC’s International Travel.”

Her third book, “Claim Denied”, an electrifying international cyber-espionage thriller, emerged from her experiences as a higher educational consultant at an American university in Kosovo. Publication is early winter, 2021.

Diann's podcasts are fun, informative, and lively, focusing on her travels; personal experiences, challenges, and reflections; writing tips; and love stories, fictional, of course.

For now, Amelia Island, Florida is her home. When she isn’t writing, podcasting, biking, or swimming, Diann is drinking wine with friends.

You can reach her through her website, DiannAbroad, or at diann@DiannAbroad.com.  She would love to hear from you!

Retired physician, Larry Martin, has written 22 books in a variety of genres.  When asked why so many and how, he says he loves to write, and he loves to learn.  He learns best by writing, from books and articles about his medical field of pulmonology (disorders of the respiratory system), to history, music, and more!  Listen as he talks about his books and his current project: Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and its effect on memory loss.

Larry Martin's bio: I began writing early in my medical career in Cleveland, starting with a book pulmonary medicine (my specialty) for the lay public. Over the years I wrote several more medical-themed books, some for physicians and others for the general public. I did not tackle fiction until 2011, with a novel about Civil War Savannah. Since then I have self-published several other fictional works, plus two books for children.

My short novel “The Boy Who Dreamed Mount Everest” won 2nd place in the 2016 Florida Writers Association’s Royal Palm Awards, category of Middle Grade Fiction. “Liberty Street: A Novel of Late Civil War Savannah” won 2nd place in the 2018 RPLA competition, for Published Historical Fiction. Several short stories have also won RPLA awards.

After retiring and moving to the Villages in 2015, I joined several writing clubs, and in 2017 served as president of the Writers League of The Villages (WLOV). I am currently WLOV’s Newsletter Editor and Website Manager. In addition, I regularly attend a writing critique group, called Wannabes, here in The Villages.

Writing is my main retirement interest, but I have another: music. I never played an instrument and decided retirement is the time to learn, starting with the ukulele. One thing led to another, and I ended up with a 140-page “Uke Syllabus: An Introduction to Basic Music Theory for the Ukulele,” which I posted free online.

My wife and I are blessed with three wonderful daughters, two in Chicago, one in New York, and 5 grandchildren.
